Influencing Regional and National Choices
Each of us can make a difference by simply using our power as citizens to create change. Call or write candidates or your member of Congress and ask them to institute a moratorium on additional coal plants.
Find out if your local utility is building or planning to build a new coal plant. If they are, ask the board to stop the plant because of the risk of global warming, the likelihood that carbon fees will be charged that could add 50% to the cost of electricity from coal, the massive health costs that are unfairly transferred to the public at large, and the damage done by mining for coal. If they won’t stop voluntarily – there are ample resources to get community, city, state and national support from organizations across the nation. Find out more at these resources below.
